Hit the road Jack

I'm leaving this morning for Nags Head, at North Carolina's outer banks. The vacation was bought and paid for in the winter, as a bunch of teacher friends and I are renting a large beach house for the week. I hope we have a good time, although I'm definitely not excited about it as when I was back in January when I paid for the trip. The heat has been unbearable lately and spending time on a beach seems counterintuitive. But good friends equals good times, and there are a few good friends on this trip. And I happen to know that the friends are planning some big birthday thing for the big 2-8 happening tomorrow.

Apparently Hurricane Irene is off the coast down there and could make its way to the banks. North Carolina has not seen a major hurricane in nine years, so they're due. We'll see.

I'll be back next weekend. Hopefully no blogging in the interim. I've been posting way too much lately, if you ask me, and a little break could be a good thing.

In addition, I'm finding it incredibly disturbing that it's August 14 and I have no idea what I'm teaching yet. Just got a big letter from the new principal with our agenda, but still no freaking schedule. As a friend said, maybe I should go contract on their ass and demand to know. (By contract, we're supposed to know when we leave the previous school year.)

It will be cooler on the beach than anywhere else. Daily trips to the beach are what's helping me live through the heat wave. Have fun. The Outer Banks is just beautiful.
