The dangers of drinking and sleeping

Wow, last night was fun. If I end up the evening telling dick jokes, you know I've had a few to drink. A lot of people came for the show - friends, old friends, friends of friends, fans of the musician - and it was just a great night. From the blogging world, Snay (who tried to abscond with my cat), Fool (who might be helping to hook me up with another cat, as Tobey keeps mewing for her departed Molly), and Zenchick (who I hoped laughed at the aforementioned dick joke) came for the show.

My head feels a little cloudy this morning, as expected. But that's no big deal. The big deal, though, is my thumb. Last night, I woke up to pee and when I returned to my bed, I noticed it was a bit chilly, then realized the window was open. I had closed the storm windows earlier in the week, but last night was warm so I opened it again. Now, I wanted it shut. I reached over the dog, grabbed the storm window, and pulled it down. I had expected it to take a good deal of force to loosen it, but instead it came right down - PLOP - on my left thumb. It hurt like hell. Even though I was still feeling a little drunk at that point, the finger stung, bad, and I just laid there waiting for the pain to subside while I feverishly petted Holden to try to take my mind off the pain. Eventually, it got to the point where I could bend the thumb so I knew it wasn't broken. I could fall back asleep. I closed my eyes, then felt something dripping down my arm. I glanced at the thumb and I can tell even in my blind state that it's gushing blood. Shit. I run to the bathroom, letting the water run over it for a while. It seems to stop, so I wrap it in a paper towel and go to sleep. This morning, it looks pretty mangled - two parallel lines are sliced into the thumb, with flaps of skin dangling around each one - and hurts. But the windows are so old and shitty that I feel sort of lucky that it didn't just slice right off.

I'm getting a late start for my Saturday routine of the gym, Trader Joes, straightening up the house, and doing school work before heading in to wait tables for the first time since Monday night. I'd better get going.

Jason and I really enjoyed Caleb's music last night...what we got to hear of it that is. Fool was right...he does rock. Thanks again for inviting me. I definitely plan to try and make future shows.

Dick JOKES. Plural.
(and yup...I'm still snickering a little.)
Hope the thumb feels better!

All I know is whenever I've heard the word "despair" today I've burst into fits of uncontrolable hysterics.
